Smokey was the winner of the 2000 Budlight Comedian of the Year competition.
Born and raised in Harlem, N.Y. the oldest of four brothers with an African-American mother and a Hispanic father, Smokey grew up with plenty to talk about.
Being the class clown, Smokey transitioned into comedy with appearances on BET’s “Comic View,” “It’s Showtime at the Apollo” and in the Roc-A-Fella and Universal film “Paper Soldiers.”
Smokey says he wanted to be a comedian after sneaking and listening to his grandfather’s comedy album, “Is That N@*$# Crazy” by Richard Pryor. At that point, he says he knew what he wanted to do for the rest of this life.
